PFDL (LAB A01) REBORN

As part of the summer 2014 refurbishment programme in the School of Pharmacy Building, the PFDL Lab was dismantled to become the spectacular new Pharmacy Practice Area. During the dismantling of the lab, the Central Nottinghamshire Scout Camp at Sherbrooke in Calverton was lucky enough to be given access to much of the benching and tops being removed.

On December 28th last year, Camp Warden Nev Barratt and his team, including me as Campsite Chairman, attacked the building known as Fernwood Lodge. This is an old wooden building which had an extremely dilapidated interior making it unattractive to users.

We ripped out the entire interior which was made up of 4 tiny rooms, added a Portakabin to one end which is now used as a 6-bunk bedroom and replaced a leaking roof.

For the interior, we have completely rewired, insulated all the walls and roof, installed new carpeting and vinyl flooring, new lighting, new plumbing, several brand new kitchen appliances and have generally made it into an open space which is very cosy and attractive to potential users.

The lab items from A01 have now been reused to form a really sturdy new kitchen, including one of the old lab sinks and drainers. Some of the Trespa benchtops have also been used to protect the wall round the cooker, form new splashbacks and kickboards and construct 2 new shelves.

With just a little cosmetic work still to do, you will see from the photos that we have made a sturdy, cosy and very useable facility which the Scouts will be able to use for many years to come.

Thanks come from Camp Warden Nev Barratt and his assistants for the donation of the old benches etc and we look forward to the Level B refurbishments this coming summer to see if we can recycle some more items!
