Doctoral Researcher Oliver Mihell-Hale Awarded PhD

Congratulations to the School of Politics and International Relations' research student Oliver Mihell-Hale on being awarded his PhD.

His thesis ‘Calibrated Killing: Examining the Relationship between Strategies of Terrorism and Types of Violence’ examines how strategy is a significant influential factor in driving terrorist group decision making in relation to different types of violence. Types of violence are understood as the numbers of casualties inflicted, the weapons used, and the targets struck. His work examines five strategies of terrorism across ten case studies to identify patterns of violence and put forward explanations for these patterns. His work contributes to enhancing the understanding of terrorist strategy and to the wider debate on terrorist group decision making in the literature.

Oliver's PhD examined by Dr Carl Gibson and Professor Martyn Frampton (Queen Mary University of London) His PhD was supervised by Professor Andrew Mumford and Dr Jason Klocek

Congratulations Oliver!
