Animation Released to Support Key Findings in AHRC Project on Filipina Migrant Domestic Worker Abuse in the UK

Dr Pauline Eadie and Dr Helen McCabe, with support from Dr Liezel Longboan, have recently announced the release of an animation to present the key findings from their AHRC- funded project Contradictions in UK Migrant Law and Women's Advocacy: the Case of Trafficked/Undocumented Filipino Women.

The project examined the issue of 'tied' visas that bind migrant domestic workers (MDWs) to designated households in the UK. The project team explored the extent to which tied visas facilitate abuse, as victims are dependent on their employers for their legal immigration status. They investigated the extent to which Filipino women who have escaped from abusive traffickers and employers ended up as undocumented ‘illegals’ who are presented as a problem for UK society.

The animation presents the project findings in an accessible format to engage a wider audience. It was positively received at its launch at a recent project workshop attended by the NGO community and domestic workers engaged in the project. The animation was made by Nifty Fox Creative.
