Biography
Angus Hebenton joined the School of Politics and International Relations as a Teaching Associate in September 2025, teaching and lecturing on political theory.
Originally from the north west of England, his first degree was in Philosophy, Politics and Economics at New College, University of Oxford. After staying on for an ESRC-funded MPhil in economic history at Oxford, he was hired as a fast-stream economist in the Government Economic Service, living and working and London, and rising to become an Economic Adviser. During this time, he studied for a part-time MA in Philosophy at Birkbeck, and, after that, he obtained WRoCAH funding and completed a full-time PhD at the University of York in political philosophy. His PhD concerned how the normative theory of relational equality may justify workplace democracy.
Prior to joining Nottingham, Angus taught political theory and related subjects in the Politics, Philosophy and Economics Departments at the University of York and in the Politics Department at the University of Manchester. He has been an Associate Lecturer and postdoctoral research associate in the Philosophy Department at York, and is qualified as an Associate Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.
