I am researching The Effectiveness of Operation Safe Corridor on Ex-insurgent Members in Nigeria: A Focus on Deradicalization, Rehabilitation, and Reintegration: A Case Study of President Muhammadu Buhari's Administration, 2015-2023. My supervisors are Professor Jan Hinrik Mayer-Sahling and Dr Eloise Bertrand. Operation Safe Corridor (OPSC) is a non-kinetic multi-agency humanitarian operation set up by the Mohammadu Buhari administration to complement other kinetic approaches in the fight against insurgency in Northern Nigeria. It also serves as a mechanism to safely reintegrate victims caught in the web of insurgent activities back into society.
My research will extensively investigate Operation Safe Corridor, focusing on the Deradicalization, Rehabilitation, and Reintegration program. I will give an extensive background on the history of the Boko Haram Terrorist group background on kinetic approaches; I will explore the agencies that make Operation Safe Corridor program and analyze the goal goals and working pattern of OPSC as well as investigate the criticism and limitations of OPSC during the stipulated framework. I would conclude by developing recommendations on improving identified gaps and how this non-kinetic approach can be globalized and replicated in other insurgent countries.
