PRIMIS has been working with Professor Tony Avery and Dr Sarah Rodgers from The University of Nottingham Division of Primary Care to develop a prescribing safety audit tool based on the PINCER Trial (a pharmacist led, IT based, intervention aimed at improving safety of prescribing in general practice). The results of the trial, published in the Lancet (February 2012), showed that the PINCER intervention is an effective method for reducing a range of clinically important and commonly made medication errors in primary care.PRIMIS is pleased to announce that the PINCER audit tool is now available for all GP practices in England. All practices wishing to make use of the new audit tool will need to register for free basic membership of PRIMIS Hub.
Following registration as a free basic member, practices can log into the PRIMIS Hub online area and download the CHART analysis tool, which is needed to run the PINCER Trial query library. The library itself can be obtained from within the CHART tool once it is installed on a practice PC. Guidance on downloading, installing and using CHART can be found within the PRIMIS Hub. The Hub will also house a dedicated area for any additional information you need to know about the PINCER Query Library.
