Update on PINCER searches and SNOMED CT

PRIMIS is pleased to confirm that the PINCER specification has been written in full SNOMED CT. A beta version of the system searches for EMIS Web and TPP SystmOne has been developed and tested internally on our in-house clinical systems. If you are interested in testing the beta version of the searches please email pincer-team@nottingham.ac.uk with your details, including clinical system type.

Please note the following important information in relation to the SNOMED version of the PINCER searches:

  • there was a recent (August 2020) update to UK version of SNOMED CT to bring it in line with the 2019 International SNOMED CT edition. This was a significant update which involved the inclusion of a large number of new codes but, more importantly, shifts in some of the existing hierarchies. Only one GP system supplier has so far implemented the August 2020 version of SNOMED within their system. In the interest of clinical safety, until we are able to fully test the updated system searches within a live environment for each clinical system, they will not be made available on general release
  • in addition, there is another proposed update to the UK version of SNOMED CT (anticipated November 2020) to bring it in line with the 2020 International Edition. Again, this will likely require updates to the searches and subsequent testing in each (live) clinical system once implemented therein. Our schedule relies on the relevant system supplier implementation dates

In the meantime, please continue to use the existing Read versions of our PINCER searches. These searches are still valid as suppliers continue to operate within the GP subset of SNOMED CT (ie those codes with an equivalent code in Read V2/CTV3).
