The ionome is the inorganic component of an organism, including mineral nutrients and trace elements.The Ionomics Facility focuses on providing researchers with large-scale phenotyping methods that go to the heart of deciphering the functions of the genes and gene networks that regulate the ionome.
The Ionomics Facility offers research scientists access to a high-throughput elemental phenotyping platform equipped with state-of-the-art inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometers (ICP-MS). We offer measurement of the levels of up to 23 metals and non-metals in a given sample.The facility is part of the Future Food Beacon and is based at the School of Biosciences. It provides elemental analysis for researchers within the School and the wider University, plus collaborators in the UK and across the world.
