Description
slavery-free campus

Please join us for the launch of a new report about how universities can tackle the problem of modern slavery in their operations and supply chains - including a new 38-step Blueprint of practical steps towards achieving a Slavery-Free Campus.

The “Slavery-Free Campus” concept commits a university to taking action to ensure that its systems are as resilient as possible to modern slavery—that it has taken all possible action in its procurement, hiring, safeguarding, and training to prevent modern slavery, and has a clear process for managing instances of modern slavery if they do occur.

Completed in multiple phases, the report includes an analysis of universities' modern slavery risks and responses to date, survey results, a new Slavery-Free Campus Framework, and the new Blueprint for action. It will be shared with attendees before the launch and discussion.

Speakers

  • Baroness Lola Young, an Independent Member of the House of Lords who has led on the issue of modern slavery and supply chains;
  • Dr. Lisa Carroll, University of Nottingham Commercial Director who chairs the University's Modern Slavery Act Working Group and led on Blueprint development;
  • Amelia Watkins-Smith, a Rights Lab PhD Student who led on the report's research.

The event will be introduced by Professor Zoe Trodd, Director of the Rights Lab, and the discussion will be chaired by Professor Todd Landman, Faculty Pro Vice Chancellor at the University of Nottingham.
