Rights Lab Student Internship Programme

The Rights Lab is the first of the University’s six Beacons of Excellence to offer a student internship programme, and is working in collaboration with the Faculty of Social Sciences and the University’s Careers and Employability Service to offer dozens of roles over the course of the 2018-19 academic year.

These paid placements ranged from four to thirteen weeks, and offered undergraduate and Masters students the opportunity to work with world-leading experts in modern slavery, including academics at the University of Nottingham and partner organisations such as the Gangmasters and Labour Abuse Authority and the Walk Free Foundation.

As the Rights Lab crosses all five faculties, there was a wide range of opportunities available for students. From coding and web design, to innovative research into supply chains, legislation and NGO strategies, marketing and events co-ordination, there are roles on offer for students throughout the University. Each intern was based at the Rights Lab headquarters, Highfield House, and received mentorship from a member of the Rights Lab team in order to gain valuable work experience whilst engaging with one of the campus’ most exciting research and engagement units.

The programme had a dedicated part-time Internships Coordinator, Olivia Wright, who worked in partnership with the Faculty’s Placements Manager, Steve Vaccarini.
