Amelia Watkins-Smith is part of a team working on a research project about the underlying orientations of religious anti-slavery action, and leads work within that project on child and forced marriage. This builds on her PhD at the University of Nottingham School of Politics and International Relations, funded via an ESRC studentship (Midlands Graduate School), about the trafficking of women and girls from Myanmar to China for the purpose of forced marriage and childbearing. In previous projects with the Rights Lab, she worked on concepts of a slavery-free campus and to research the role of community and faith-based initiatives in efforts to end slavery.
