Amelia Watkins-Smith (Politics and International Relations) works as part of the Rights Lab's Health and Communities Programme to develop a slavery-free campus and to research the role of community and faith-based initiatives in efforts to end slavery. Amelia is also a PhD student researching the trafficking of women and girls from Myanmar to China for the purpose of forced marriage and childbearing. She holds an ESRC Studentship for this work (Midlands Graduate School), and is supervised by Professor Kevin Bales and Dr Helen McCabe. Amelia previously completed the University of Nottingham MA in Slavery and Liberation (2019-20), and directed the Rights Lab’s Reading Programme (2018-19) as an undergraduate, engaging over 20,000 people in learning activities about modern slavery.
