Dr. Gavin Smith (Business) works as part of the Rights Lab's Measurement and Geographies Programme to use data science for antislavery. He is currently working with partners in Brazil and Tanzania to analyse non-standard data streams that indicate vulnerability to slavery, including mobile money transactions and call detail records. He specializes in temporal data mining and machine learning, focusing on the development of novel data-driven approaches to predict human behaviour in time series. This includes work on the efficient and effective processing of large data sets in order to better understand, summarise and predict human behaviour.
