Hannah Jeffery (Cultures, Languages and Area Studies) works as part of the Communities and Society Programme and is currently analysing how cities and communities use visual culture and murals to raise awareness and to work towards being slavery-free cities. She is also working with the Law and Policy Programme on its new database of all domestic legislation globally on modern slavery, forced labour and human trafficking. She recently completed a PhD at the University of Nottingham, funded by the AHRC’s Antislavery Usable Past project, that examined the presence of antislavery figures in social justice murals and street art of the 20th and 21st centuries.
