Advancing Precision in Additive Manufacturing Conference
Andrew Dickins, Richard Leach, Lewis Newton, Vicente Rivas Santos and Adam Thompson attended the 2018 ASPE and euspen Summer Topical Meeting on Advancing Precision in Additive Manufacturing in Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, Berkeley, USA from 22nd to 25th July 2018. The meeting was attended by around 120 machine manufacturers, metrology companies and researchers from across the world. This was a very lively meeting with many discussions about how technologies and concepts from the world of precision engineering can influence additive manufacturing. MMT had a total of 4 oral papers (all available here).
- Andrew “Design of a multi-sensor in-situ inspection system for additive manufacturing”
- Lewis “Focus variation measurement of metal additively manufactured surfaces”
- Vicente “Benchmarking of an additive manufacturing process”
- Adam “Correlating volume and surface features in additively manufactured parts”
Richard co-chaired the conference (with John Taylor) and 2 sessions (machine design and XCT) and Adam chaired a session (surface metrology). Richard presented a tutorial on the basics of dimensional metrology and Adam presented a tutorial on XCT metrology (with Massimiliano Ferrucci). The next meeting in the series will be in France in 2019.
