Postgraduate Research in CIER

CIER has a large and diverse postgraduate researcher community, supported by a group of experienced doctoral supervisors. We also have a number of postdoctoral researchers as centre members and are keen to grow this group. 

Research areas

We would particularly welcome applications for doctoral and postdoctoral research in the following areas: 

• Political, sociological and historical perspectives on studies of adult, vocational, higher, non/in-formal and lifelong education in the UK and internationally  

• Critical perspectives on the internationalisation of education: schools, colleges and universities 
• Comparative perspectives on education and social movements
• Autonomous education in global perspective

• The global politics of knowledge and de/colonisation

• Skills development, vocational education and training and professional education for human development and social justice

• The role of local, national and international organisations in educational policy processes
