The Propound project aims to create a UK nacelle structure centre of excellence. The University of Nottingham is partnered with SAFRAN Aircelle (UK) and Composite Integration, with a grant of £4.6 million from AMSCI (Advanced Manufacturing Supply Chain Initiative). The University is responsible for the research on composite surface quality and structural characterisation.
The focus of the project is to produce aerospace graded composite structures through low cost resin transfer moulding process. The research and development from this project will create new processing technologies, intellectual property and ultimately job creation at Aircelle Ltd in Burnley.
