The Programme
The programme was based around the British Museum Viking Exhibition (6 March-22 June 2014). Following a training workshop in Cambridge in January 2014, and a visit to the exhibition in March, PhD students accepted onto the programme made field trips in small groups to five localities in Britain and Ireland where they worked with local schools, museums, historical societies and tourist organizations to research and disseminate aspects of local Viking heritage. The groups and their local collaborators reconvened at a final conference ('Unlocking the Vikings') which was held in Nottingham 28-29 June 2014. This conference was open to all.
Each team developed a booklet discussing the Viking heritage of their research location. These booklets are available to download on our Publications page.
