MRC: Clinician scientist fellowship: Sep 2021

Description
This award can help you become an independent investigator through a programme of research and training lasting up to five years. We will provide your salary plus some support costs. To apply, you must have:research plans within MRC's remit which do not overlap with those of your current group leader or proposed sponsora track record of challenging, original and productive research across past appointments, and an upward trajectoryidentified opportunities for developing and progressing in your career.You must have a higher research degree in medicine or another clinical area.

Description
You can get funding for a research project across any area of MRC's remit to improve human health. You can apply for:predoctoral fellowships – if you are a clinician wanting to undertake a PhD or other higher research degreepostdoctoral fellowships – if you were awarded a PhD some time ago but have not been active in research since, we can help you to reacquire research skills.We expect you to be undertaking your specialty training. You can apply for a fellowship lasting between two and four years but they usually last for three. Funding will cover your salary and related expenses.

Healthcare technologies investigator-led research grants are for researchers at UK higher education institutions, research council institutes, UKRI-approved independent research organisations and NHS bodies.We strongly encourage collaboration with relevant healthcare professionals, other researchers, industry, the public sector and other relevant partners.We are looking for researchers in engineering, physical sciences, information and communications technologies (ICT) and mathematical sciences who want to apply their expertise to healthcare challenges.Projects can range in size from small short-term grants to multi-million-pound research programmes lasting several years. There is no limit on the size of the grant or length of the project.We will award 80% of the full economic costs of the project, and your organisation must agree to find the balance.

The new investigator award is for people who hold an academic lectureship position at UK higher education institutions, research council institutes, UKRI-approved independent research organisations and NHS bodies, and have not previously led an academic research group or been the recipient of a significant grant.Projects should be self-contained and have a single research vision with clearly defined objectives and outcomes.Your project should typically last one to three years. Complex, multi-faceted research projects with many objectives are not appropriate for this scheme.We will award 80% of the full economic costs of the project, and your organisation must agree to find the balance.

Daphne Jackson fellowship

These fellowships are for those looking to return to a research career after a break of two or more years for family, health or caring reasons. The aim is to give participants the confidence and skills they need to make a successful return to research.They provide an opportunity to balance a personalised retraining programme with a challenging research project, in a supportive UK university or research establishment.They are flexible, with at least 100 hours retraining per year, and part-time – usually completed over two years at 0.5 full-time equivalent although some UKRI funders may award longer than this.

Key features of a Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) are that:they are open to businesses or not-for-profit organisations, research organisations and graduates to work on an innovation projectpartnerships can last between 12 and 36 monthsfunding is provided to support the total cost of the project – businesses provide around one-third to half of the project costs depending on their size.
