Mandarin Corner: Classical Gardens of Suzhou

Description
On the evening of 28 November, the Si Yuan Centre welcomed over 50 University staff, students, and local residents, for the final Mandarin Corner of the term, hosted by the Nottingham Confucius Institute. Led by Mr. Liu Zefu from the Chinese Students and Scholars Association (CSSA), the event ran from 6:30pm to 8:00pm, exploring the theme of Suzhou's classical gardens.

NCI Brings a Taste of China to University Park Winter Diversity Event

Description
On the afternoon of 26 November, the Pope Building at University Park was alive with cultural celebration as the Faculty of Science hosted its Winter Diversity Day. Running from 2 to 4 PM, the event aimed to share winter traditions from across the University of Nottingham's global community. A standout feature was the vibrant showcase organised by the University of Nottingham Confucius Institute (NCI), whose interactive exhibits drew steady crowds throughout the afternoon.

Sandi Toksvig's Hidden Wonders

Description
In this episode, Sandi is joined by Dr Christina Lee, Associate Professor in Viking Studies at the University of Nottingham's School of English, who has specialist knowledge of medieval medicines. Christina, whose research is looking at healing in Early Medieval England, joins Sandi Toksvig to talk about potential medicines which were around in the period. The 'eyesalve' which Christina researched with a team of scientist has proved to be efficacious and it shows that people in the so-called 'Dark Ages' may have had effective healing. Together they recreate a remedy from a 10th century book Bald's Leechbook.

Nailing first-year work experience: A guide

Jodie talks about her varied extracurricular activities outside her first-year studies. Alongside two experiences working with children, she also spent 35 hours working at the Nottingham Playhouse through the Nottingham Advantage Award. Through these experiences, Jodie has made friends, developed her skills and started to build her network.
