Mechanical and Aerospace Systems Research Group

Research

The group works on a range of mechanical and aerospace systems across the various energy and transport fields. We have different research themes in solid mechanics and materials, thermofluids, machine learning, digital twinning and data analytics, flight dynamics, and machine dynamics, rotordynamics, vibration, and controls. Visit the individual themes to learn more.

Our team works collaboratively with partners to evaluate their technological challenges and design research programmes to deliver the tools and/or knowledge needed. We assess systems holistically to identify the best route to implementation; such routes may include new physical data sets and/or modelling development.  Our research spans a variety of complexity scales, from TRL 1 to TRL 6, and the team works on fundamental research to product development and de-risking.
