I have an MEng in Chemical Engineering from Imperial College. I did my PhD at the Industrial Research Institute of Swinburne University in Melbourne, Australia. I then worked in contaminated land consulting (predominantly remediation and site assessment) before returning to academia. I held postdoctoral research positions in Monash University and The University of Nottingham before joining the School of Chemical and Environmental Engineering of The University of Nottingham as an academic member of staff. I am an Associate Member of the IChemE. I teach Contaminated Land and Design Projects, and my research area is the sustainable processing of renewable and waste materials using microwaves.
I am a member of the Low Carbon Energy and Resources Technologies research group.
I specialise in microwave technologies to convert biomass and waste to novel products for the food, pharmaceutical and chemical industries. My focuses on the fundamental understanding of how microwave heating can enhance mass transfer and the application of this knowldge to address industrial challenges (e.g. waste plastics recycling and the sustainable production of chemicals from food waste).
I am the Director of MSc Studies and teach in contaminated land and research and design projects.
