New EDI Toolkit supports inclusive research practice

Posted on Friday 25th July 2025

A new online Toolkit is now available to help researchers embed Equity/Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) into their research. Developed by the Centre for Postdoctoral Development in Infrastructure, Cities and Energy (C-DICE) in collaboration with the Universities of Birmingham, Loughborough, and Nottingham, it’s open to researchers at any career stage and from any institution. While the case studies focus on energy and net zero, they also offer insights that can benefit a wide range of other disciplines.

This interactive, self-guided resource offers flexible and accessible support for strengthening inclusive research practices. Designed for convenience, it helps users build confidence in integrating EDI into their work through a blend of foundational guidance and scenario-based learning. Researchers can explore key EDI considerations in project planning, improve the integration of EDI in funding proposals, and enhance the impact of EDI statements in grant applications.

The Toolkit has received praise from postdoctoral researchers, academics, and research development managers for its practical and user-friendly approach.

To get started, users simply register on the University of Birmingham’s Canvas platform, complete six self-paced modules, and earn a micro-credential badge to showcase their achievement.

Find out more and access the Toolkit on the C-DICE website.
