Let's try something different.

There is no safe level of smoking but if you cannot stop smoking, cutting down and smoking less is the best thing you can do for you and your baby. You will have discussed with a SNAP3 Stop Smoking Practitioner which NRT is best for you.

Cutting Down

Use the NRT (patches or inhalator) to reduce the number of cigarettes you currently smoke on a daily basis.

Roughly how many cigarettes do you smoke each day now?

  • From Day 1 of using NRT, begin to reduce the amount you smoke
  • Each day cut out one cigarette until you quit or smoke as few cigarettes as possible
  • Start by cutting out the cigarettes you feel you need least, or the ones that you view as just a habit or something to do
  • In two weeks the number of cigarettes you are smoking should be

      • Less than 10 cigarettes per day AND
      • Less than your starting number of cigarettes per day

The less you smoke, the greater the chances are of your baby being born healthier and of you feeling healthier too.
