Postgraduate taught induction timetable

MA American Studies 

We’re looking forward to welcoming you to our department and have created an informative induction programme to help ease you into university life.

Our sessions will introduce you to:

  • the structure of your course
  • our academic staff
  • all the resources and support available to you at the University of Nottingham

We strongly encourage you to attend these sessions, as they are a vital part of your orientation. Attending these sessions will help prepare you for your time at Nottingham.

Session locations

The building number is included for in-person sessions. This is to help you find the location on the University Park campus map. You can also look for the locations on the University of Nottingham AccessAble guide to find accessibility information. 

Some sessions will take place online. Find a study space to use if you need a quiet place to join.

Participation levels

Each event lists the level of interaction. This includes: 

  • No interaction: an information session with no questions asked of the audience. You will not be asked to speak in front of the audience.
  • Some voluntary interaction: an information session with very limited (voluntary) participation. The speaker may ask questions or invite you to ask questions on a voluntary basis. You will not be asked to speak in front of the audience.
  • Active voluntary interaction: an interactive session, where the speaker may ask questions but will ask for voluntary answers. You may be asked to contribute.
  • Social interaction: A social/informal event aimed to help you get to know your peers and/or different services/groups from around the university.

Online: Being Part of an Academic Community for Arts postgraduate taught and MRes Students - with the Learning Development Team

Being a postgraduate taught student can sometimes feel a bit like being in limbo: you are not an undergraduate, and usually only have one year to become part of the university and complete your course! So how can you feel part of the academic community you are studying in? In this session we will look at the structure of the university, timings of the university year, engaging with academic events in your area and feeling empowered as a postgraduate taught and master's by research student.

  • ‘Imposter phenomenon’
