Online: Being Part of an Academic Community for Arts postgraduate taught and MRes Students - with the Learning Development Team
This session is a compulsory study skills session for postgraduate students, run by the learning development team.
The session is 60 minutes long (including question time) and delivered online via Microsoft Teams. During this informal session, students are welcome to contribute via the chat function or to raise hands and contribute verbally.
Being a postgraduate taught student can sometimes feel a bit like being in limbo: you are not an undergraduate, and usually only have one year to become part of the university and complete your course! So how can you feel part of the academic community you are studying in? In this session we will look at the structure of the university, timings of the university year, engaging with academic events in your area and feeling empowered as a postgraduate taught and master's by research student.
Key content:
- Structure and function of the university
- Shape of the university year for postgraduate students
- Engaging with schools including through conference events
- ‘Imposter phenomenon’
