The Centre for Conflict, Security and Terrorism (CST) is very pleased to welcome Dr Antonio Giustozzi (King's/RUSI) as part of the Highlight Speakers Series, to deliver a talk entitled 'Centralised or decentralised? The debate on the organisation of insurgencies in the light of Afghanistan and Syria' in which the organisation of terrorist and military insurgencies following the recent, and ongoing wars in Afghanistan and Syria.

The event is free to attend.

Dr Giustozzi is a Visiting Professor at the Department of War Studies, King's College London, and holds a PhD from the LSE(International Relations) and a BA in Contemporary History from the University of Bologna. He worked at the Crisis States Research Centre (LSE) until January 2011. He served with UNAMA (United Nations Assistance Mission to Afghanistan) in 2003-4.

Dr Giustozzi is the author of a number of books including: War, Politics and Society in Afghanistan, 1978-1992 (Georgetown University Press), Koran, Kalashnikov and Laptop: the Neo-Taliban Insurgency, 2002-7 (Columbia University Press), Empires of Mud: War and Warlords in Afghanistan (Columbia University Press) and Policing Afghanistan (with M. Ishaqzada, Columbia University Press, 2013). He also authored a volume on the role of coercion and violence in state-building, The Art of Coercion (Columbia University Press, 2011).
