Work of Dr Edward Burke discussed in Irish Parliament

The work of Associate Professor and SUIT member Edward Burke has been discussed in the Irish Parliament.

On 16 December 2021 Brendan Smith TD and the Minister of State Justice, James Browne TD, referenced the 2020 journal article Loyalist Mobilization and Cross-Border Violence in Rural Ulster, 1972-1974 whilst discussing the current police investigation into the loyalist bombing in Belturbet, County Cavan in December 1972.

Edward is currently completing an AHRC Fellowship examining the use of deterrent violence in rural Ulster’s long century of paramilitary conflict. Combining archival and field research, the project aims to make a significant contribution to our understanding of conflict in the UK-Irish border region.
