Participants
Gary Priestnall
Jeff Cowton, Curator, Wordsworth Trust

Project Overview

This project followed on from the Edwards Lear virtual tour created in 2009, and attempted to place a number of landscape paintings into a virtual scene. Unlike the Lear exhibit, the Savage Grandeur virtual tour was not created for a gallery context, but was designed to give visitors a glimpse of the paintings in a visitor centre, before choosing to enter the physical gallery space. This was implemented as a movie-like flythrough here, but also a more interactive version created for pre-visitors using Google Earth’s API.

Virtual billboards were created in 3D modelling package Sketchup, placing landscape painting images with the model. These were then placed at the appropriate locations within Google Earth and a flight path created using a combination of aerial place marks and paths to follow.
