The Medical School opened in 1970, and was the first to be established in the UK in the 20th century.

Its Nottingham base is in the Queen's Medical Centre, a complex which also includes the 1,300-bed University Hospital.  It is located close to University Park , across the busy A52, and the two campuses are linked by a pedestrian footbridge giving easy access to the University Park facilities .

Medical and nursing students will find that they also spend their time at a number of hospitals throughout the region.  Purpose-built University facilities have been developed at the nearby Nottingham City Hospital and also the Royal Derby Hospital, the latter being the base for the Graduate Entry Medicine course established in 2003.
