PhD Student,
I have assisted with the following modules:
Assessing the importance of open-source software from a cyber-security perspective.
My research is based on the notion that "obscurity is not security". From a cyber-security perspective, it is preferred that systems be open-source as flaws can be detected by members of the public. Vulnerabilities could have been introduced into a closed-source solution that are not identifiable, as a result of the inaccessible nature of the code-base. The project involves attempting to further prove this concept by reverse-engineering some existing systems (some older and some newer) in an attempt to determine the cyber-security impacts of their closed-sourced nature.
I specifically focus on vehicular/automotive control systems and the related diagnostic capabilities of such systems.
