Expertise Summary

I obtained BEng and MSc degrees from Chongqing University, China, and PhD from the University of Strathclyde. I had worked as an academic at Queen's University Belfast and Chongqing University before I joined the Department in 2008. My main research interests are in areas of process modelling and optimisation, metal forming and material processing techniques as well as machine system design and integration. In the past 10 years, I have led a number of EPSRC, EC/FP and industrial sponsored projects in developing integrated forging optimisation systems for net-shape manufacturing of aeroengine components. I'm now interested in looking into new materials processing techniques. I'm also keen to work on new computational methods and experimental procedures in the general field of mechanical and manufacturing engineering. I have 90 publications in journals and conference proceedings and have been an EPSRC Peer College member since 2006.

1) Process modelling and computational tools of metal forming and materials processing.

2) Finite element method and optimisation techniques of contact problems.

3) Advanced metal forming processes including net-shape forging and incremental sheet forming for aerospace and medical applications.

4) Multi-Scale computational modelling of rough surface contact and engineering applications.
