Biography

Grant completed his MRes in Tropical Forest Ecology at Imperial College London and obtained his BSc Honors at the University of Wolverhampton. He is currently completing his PhD at the University of Nottingham where he is involved in research investigating how geological heterogeneity (geodiversity) influences spatial patterns of species functional diversity.

Current Research

Grant's research focuses on linking geodiversity and biodiversity (i.e. linking the diversity of living and non-living nature). Specifically, Grant's research centers around investigating how geodiversity influences trait-based measures of biodiversity across different scales, taxa and biomes.

Past Research

Postgraduate research

Investigated change in predator-prey distributions across primary and logged forests throughout northern Borneo.

Undergraduate research

Investigated change in the distribution of passerine species at forest habitat edges in rural areas of Scotland.

Future Research

Determine how geodiversity influences functional diversity across:

  • Different components of functional diversity.
  • local, regional, continental and global scales.
  • Different ecosystems and biomes.
  • Plant and animal functional diversity.
