The position of experimental officer involves the operation and maintenance of the time of flight secondary ion mass spectrometer (TOF-SIMS) within the School of Pharmacy. The role also includes conducting any necessary user training on the TOF-SIMS equipment and in the relevant data analysis techniques. TOF-SIMS is a surface analysis technique which incorporates both the analytical technique of SIMS and TOF mass analysis. The TOF mass analyser provides enhanced mass resolution as compared with other SIMS systems allowing the detection of all elements and isotopes as well as gleaning chemical information via molecular and cluster ions. The user base for the TOF-SIMS equipment extends beyond the School of Pharmacy to include Chemistry, Physics and Materials groups within the University as well as colleagues from the Nanotechnology and Nanoscience Centre at Nottingham with current users and collaborators at The University of Manchester, Keele University and MIT. Current and previous industrial clients and collaborators include Molecular Profiles Ltd, Abbot Vascular, Johnson & Johnson Ltd and The National Physics Laboratory. Current projects involving TOF-SIMS within The University of Nottingham include:
