Athena Swan
Athena SWAN ( http://www.athenaswan.org.uk/ ) recognises and celebrates good employment practice for women working in science, technology, engineering, mathematics and medicines in higher education and research. In May 2017, the School of Chemistry at the University of Nottingham achieved an Athena SWAN Silver Award. We are working towards a Gold Award.
I recognize that the School will only reach its full potential across the full spectrum of its activities if it benefits from the skills and abilities of all staff and students, irrespective of gender, background and circumstances, and if it is an attractive working environment. Our engagement with the Athena Charter, and with the full breadth of equality and diversity issues in the workplace, has led to the implementation of a range of measures that are having a significant impact in enabling this cultural shift to gain momentum.
