Description
Maxwell Ayamba, first-year PhD student in Black Studies working on the experience and use of the Peak District National Park by people of Black African ancestry, has been featured in an article for the YHA: Photos relive the fight to establish UK National Parks.

New publication for Dirk Goettsche: Memory and Postcolonial Studies: Synergies and New Directions

Description
A volume based on the conference of the same title which the Research Priority Area "Languages, Texts and Society" hosted in June 2016, which includes chapters by colleagues and postgraduates from Modern Languages and Cultures, and American and Canadian Studies.

Lord Dearing Award for Cultures, Languages and Area Studies

Description
Congratulations to Tara Webster-Deakin (Widening Participation and Outreach Manager) who is the recipient of a Dearing Award this year in recognition of her work in supporting outreach into schools and Widening Participation in both the teaching and administrative aspects of her work in the School of Cultures, Languages and Area Studies.

Fellowship awards for postgraduate students

Description
Congratulations to American and Canadian Studies postgraduate students Hannah Rose Murray, who has been awarded a Leverhulme postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Edinburgh, and Steve Gallo, who has been awarded a Fellowship at the Filson Historical Society.Well done also to Will Atkin (Cultural, Media and Visual Studies) who will take up a Leverhulme Fellowship at Nottingham in May.
