Biography
I am currently a Teaching Associate in the Department of Cultural, Media and Visual Studies at the University of Nottingham. I completed my PhD at Nottingham in 2016. I hold an MRes in Film and Television Studies, also awarded by the University of Nottingham. In 2005 I completed an MSc in Multimedia Engineering, awarded by Nottingham Trent University.
Expertise Summary
My teaching and research expertise spans on transnational cinema's production and consumption, film technology, and artistic practices situated at the interface of cinema and the art gallery. My previous research concerns production and consumption of contemporary art cinema, focused on the Portuguese filmmaker Pedro Costa.
Currently I am starting a research on audiovisual technologies. This research reflects my academic concerns at the interface of cinema theory and film technology. I am particularly interested in the dialogue between analogue and digital media technologies and formats, including processes of technological and cultural obsolescence, and the ways these can help us rethink present debates around film and media aesthetics, production and consumption practices.
Among others, my research and personal interests include Iberian and Latin American art and popular cinemas, global art film, media archaeology, documentary film, cinema and music subcultures, and depictions of food in film and TV.
