How do you tell if something is alive?

The Mimetic Starfish, a computer-controlled installation created by Richard Brown, PhD student at the Mixed Reality Lab, is currently displayed at Since 1843: In The Making, a prestigious alumni exhibition in the Bonington gallery at Nottingham Trent University.

The starfish, seemingly embedded into a flat surface, responds realistically to the touch of visitors, showing that reality isn’t always what it seems.
