Module enrolment – problems with change of mind requests

Student services located in the Exchange Building, Jubilee Campus 714x249

Message from Breda Walls, Chief Student Management Officer.

I would like to extend my sincere apologies to all the students who were affected by the problems with module enrolment and to thank you for your patience.

Problems occurred with the online module enrolment form during this year’s start of session. This form is used by new students to choose their modules for the coming year, and by returning students if they wish to change the modules they initially chose in April.

The problems emerged during the change of mind period — which runs from Wednesday 27 September to Wednesday 11 October for student requests, and Wednesday 25 October for final confirmations — and were a result of technical issues. Approximately 3-4% of our students were affected. We have now fixed the issues, however, it may take some time for the corrections to migrate across all the different systems that support students (eg Timetabling, Moodle). We are also running a full analysis to understand who has been affected, and why.

Students who have submitted a change of mind request may not have their choices confirmed until Wednesday 25 October, when the change of mind period officially ends. Until that point the submitted online module enrolment form is the official record of the choices made.

Once Student Services have processed and confirmed change of mind requests, it can take up to 72 hours for module enrolment changes to be reflected in individual student timetables. If, after 72 hours, the issue still persists, then please contact your Student Service Centre. Please note that during these 72 hours you can still view information about your classes on your master timetable via the ‘Modules’ tab — you can view the timetable for your module choices straightaway. You can search by module code if you know it or filter the list by department.

If the module choices aren’t correct you may need the assistance of Student Services to adjust the form, which will in turn correct your timetable. However, before you contact the team please check if your issue is covered on our Frequently Asked Questions page. We have updated these FAQs with lots of information about how to resolve many of the queries you may have. Topics covered include:

  • Options for viewing your timetable and what to do if you can’t see it
  • How to enable pop-ups on your web browser (this is a common problem which prevents the timetable displaying)
  • What to do if modules are missing from your timetable
  • How to request a change to your seminars or lab sessions
  • How to check and resolve timetable clashes
  • The difference between compulsory, restricted and optional module
  • What to do if you want to change your mind about the options you have chosen

Once again, I apologise to those affected and thank you for your patience.
