Professor De Fraja appointed to evaluate research for Italian universities

Professor Gianni De Fraja has been selected as a member of the panel of the evaluation of research quality for Italian universities and research agencies (the so-called VQR). The 31 member panel will rate the research carried out in Economics Management Statistics and related subjects in the period from 2011-2014. Similarly to the British REF, this evaluation, now in its third edition, will form the basis for the allocation of a portion of the public research funds among Italian institutions. Every researcher is allocated to one of 14 research broad areas, and must submit two or three items of research published in the period. Unlike the British equivalent the research rating will be based only on the publications, with no role given to research impact or to the research environment.
