School of Economics Alumni Conference 2021

On Thursday 18 February, the School of Economics held its Alumni Conference 2021. This online event saw 10 former students present to current undergraduate and postgraduate students about their careers and share tips for using an economics degree at work.

The students then had the opportunity to participate in a Q&A chaired by Dr Valeria Rueda, the school’s Careers Liaison Officer.

The event was divided into three sessions. The first of these covered finance and consulting careers and featured alumni who now work at KPMG, BCS Consulting and EY.

The second panel focussed on roles in government and policy and included speakers who work (or have worked) at the Financial Conduct Authority, Home Office, Bank of England, Government Economic Service and Department for Transport.

To finish, a panel on 'other careers' brought together alumni who have gone on to work in areas such as academia and business start-ups, as well as a successful Filmaker and YouTuber. The addition of this panel was well-received and enabled students to gain an insight into the vast range of career options that are available for economics graduates.

The School of Economics would like to extend a huge thank you to those alumni who gave up their time to attend the event.
