Race Equality Charter action plan

The Race Equality Charter implementation group will meet three times a year. It is responsible for reviewing the plan and monitoring progress against the actions.

Action plan response to Black Lives Matter protests – May 2020 to May 2021

In response to the issues raised by staff and students during the Black Lives Matter protests in May 2020, the university outlined a commitment and action plan to directly address the concerns raised and tackle systemic inequalities.

We listened to the concerns of our Black staff and students and heard that we need to go further and do more. The plan merged ongoing work with new projects and was developed in consultation with the BAME Staff Network and the university’s Black student societies.

This work is logged and tracked via the regularly-updated action plan, which is hosted on this page. An updated version of the plan, noting progress and completed actions, was uploaded every term.

This action plan has now been replaced by the Race Equality Charter action plan, with outstanding actions carried over as appropriate. It won’t be updated after May 2021.

A glossary of terms and abbreviations used in the plan is available here
