Excluded from the political process: political participation for persons with disabilities in the UK

HRLC's findings on the situation of political participation for persons with disabilities in the UK have now been published.  The country report was produced by HRLC, under the FRA's research network FRANET.  In May 2014 the FRA published a report entitled 'The right to political participation for persons with disabilities:  human rights indicators'. This report found that legal and administrative barriers, inaccessible processes and information, and a lack of awareness of political rights can deny persons with disabilities the opportunity to participate in the political life of their community.

The UK country report informed the comparative analysis in the above report by providing background information on the situation in the UK.  To coincide with the publication of the EU wide report and the European elections, HRLC Research Assistant, Amy Weatherburn commented on the exclusion of persons with disabilities from the political process in the Notts Politics blog Ballots and Bullets.
