Today, on Monday 3 August Mary Dowell-Jones, HRLC Fellow and Member of the HRLC FRAME Project Team, will open the first discussion round at Amnesty International’s Social Justice and Human Rights Symposium.
In light of the increasing appearance of social justice issues in modern protest movements the symposium will provide space for discussion and debate around the conceptual and strategic relationship between human rights and social justice.
Ms Dowell-Jones, author of the recently published The Economics of the Austerity Crisis: Unpicking Some Human Rights Arguments, will contribute to the first discussion round which focuses on the relationship between democratic and fiscal policy making and the impact on economic and social rights. The session will also aim to sculpt Amnesty International’s future work in the area.
