Forced Migration Unit Launch Policy Brief Series

HRLC’s Forced Migration Unit is pleased to announce the launch of its Policy Brief Series. This is a result of a two day workshop convened by the Unit in November 2017 entitled, Tackling Root Causes? EU Aid and Governance to Control Migration. Participants of the workshop decided to create a network for more long term collaboration and the Series is their first initiative. It will address topics related to the EU’s approach to the external dimensions of its migration policy and will track, and respond to, key developments in this area.

To launch the Series, we are today publishing the first brief by Dr. Jean-Pierre Cassarino and Dr. Mariagiulia Giuffré, Finding its Place in Africa: Why has the EU opted for flexible arrangements on readmission? This timely brief coincides with the conclusion of the 5th African Union-European Union Summit that took place in Abidjan on 29 – 30 November 2017. It addresses a number of key questions in relation to the use of soft law instruments for readmission procedures.
