Published - Guidelines and checklist on implementation of the ICC Statute and the APIC

Since 2013, HRLC’s ICJ Unit has been working in collaboration with the Case Matrix Network to create the Cooperation and Judicial Assistance Database (CJAD), a central information hub of implementing legislation on cooperation relevant to the ICC and the Agreement on the Privileges and Immunities of the Court.

Resulting from the work carried out under this project, HRLC is pleased to announce the publication of the Guidelines and checklist on implementation of the ICC Statute and the APIC, authored by Professor Olympia Bekou and Ms Katerina Katsimardou Miariti. The Guidelines offer a comprehensive review of varying approaches adopted by States in implementing Rome Statute and APIC provisions. The examples have been sourced using the National Implementing Legislation Database, which forms part of the ICC Legal Tools Project as well as the Cooperation and Judicial Assistance Database, both developed by HRLC.

Speaking of the Guidelines, Professor Bekou said:

"It is our hope tha the Guidelines will provide guidance for national legislators and policy-makers, as well as criminal justice practitioners, researchers and academics, who wish to gain an in-depth understanding of the approaches that are available to States in the ICC implementation process. To aid the process, a 59-step Checklist has also been developed and is available to download as part of the Guidelines, for free ”
