Institute of Asia and Pacific Studies

American Association of Geographers Annual Conference

The Institute of Asia and Pacific Studies provided partial support for my attendance at The American Association of Geographers (AAG) Annual Conference in San Francisco between 29 March and 2 April, 2016. I organised a session on financial restructuring during the conference, and a call for papers was issued during in September and October 2015. 5 scholars from Canada, China, the USA and the UK participated in the session. Funding from IAPS supported my accommodation cost.

The session topic attracted the interest of the AAG specialty groups, and three groups offered to sponsor the session (Economic Geography, Asian Geography and China Geography Specialty Groups). Having joint support from three groups demonstrates the timely nature of the session. The Regional Studies Association chose this session as a platform to introduce its new journal, Area Development and Policy. IAPS leaflets were prepared and distributed in the session; IAPS support was gratefully acknowledged in the concluding slide. In light of the positive institutional and scholarly support and turnout, the session has attained my academic objective and increased the exposure of IAPS.
