Professor Katharine Adeney became Director in 2013. Previously working at the LSE, Oxford and Sheffield, her research specialism is ethnic conflict regulation, the countries of South Asia and comparative democratisation. She has published widely, in journals such as Electoral Studies, Political Studies, Publius, Ethnopolitics, Commonwealth and Comparative Politics and Asian Survey and is author of Federalism and Ethnic Conflict Regulation in India and Pakistan (Palgrave 2007), Contemporary India (with Andrew Wyatt, Palgrave 2010) and is co-editor (with Lawrence Sáez) of Coalition Politics and Hindu Nationalism (Routledge 2005).
Professor Adeney said ‘I am delighted to have joined the University of Nottingham and honoured to be taking over the Directorship of IAPS; continuing the tradition of coordinating and promoting interdisciplinary research on the countries of Asia. I am looking forward to the opportunity to make new connections within the UK and abroad. I welcome and encourage approaches from scholars interested in pursuing collaborative research with IAPS, as well as students looking to start postgraduate study at the University’.
