Funding transformative student projects.

Will you help make a lasting difference to the lives of our students and communities across the world?

The issue

We want the student experience at Nottingham to be outstanding, not only in our lecture theatres, laboratories and libraries, but in the wealth of opportunities available through societies and volunteering within communities locally, nationally and internationally.

Our students

Our students and staff have fantastic ideas for projects that will benefit the wider student community or those beyond the University at home and abroad. These projects fall outside of the core curriculum and so can’t be anticipated or budgeted for.

Our solution

Cascade (formerly the Annual Fund) awards up to £25,000 to student projects that will enrich the lives of our students and people across the world.

Cascade has been created thanks to donations from the University’s community of alumni, students, parents and staff. All awards are decided by a panel of leading alumni donors.

Our impact

Cascade supports projects which enhance the skills, confidence, social awareness and employability of students, while making a significant impact on communities, both locally and globally.

Since 2007, thanks to the generosity of our donors, more than £1 million has been shared among over 100 student projects.

What will your Impact be?

We will continue to promote the opportunities presented by Cascade. But we can’t fund every deserving project. With your help we can support more.

Whether £3 each month, a single gift of £500, or anything in between, your donation can make a lifetime of difference.

Quotes

Funding from Cascade provided me with a priceless experience that I would otherwise be unable to afford, as well as supporting, enriching and enhancing my career.

Fiona Stockdale (English Studies), who worked at Upendo School in Kenya, established by Nottingham alumnus Dr Peter Masibo Lumala

A £17,500 grant transformed us overnight from working with a handful of people to helping hundreds. We were able to take Nottingham students to Ghana and this was vital. They helped us enormously and they found the trip an invaluable learning experience. It’s important that Nottingham’s alumni know that their financial support is allowing students to do some amazing things around the world.

Chris Skilton, Former Nottingham President of Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE), who founded CEDIS, an innovative micro-credit scheme.

I feel humbled by the experience, touched to have been able to take part and spend time with the children, people and teachers, and also rather selfish for not appreciating what we have in England and being grateful for it every morning.

Nicola Hickton (PGCE graduate 2010, one of 21 to experience a volunteer placement in South Africa thanks
to Cascade)

By making a donation to Cascade each month I know that I am supporting students who are keen to make the very most of their time at Nottingham. It’s inspiring to see some of the brilliant things they do thanks to the grant money.

Caroline Findlay, Agricultural & Food Sciences (1996)
