China is predicted to become the world’s largest economy by 2020.
Will you help educate leaders who understand contemporary China in an international context?
In 2010, after more than 30 years of rapid economic growth and social development, China became the world’s second largest economy, behind the United States.
Along with India, Russia, Brazil and South Africa, China’s continued economic successes and expansion will fundamentally change the geo-political and geo-economic balances of the world, shifting the world’s centre of economic-political gravity from West to East.
It is of national and global importance that tomorrow’s leaders understand change and transformation in China to ensure they can address the challenges - and exploit the opportunities - created by its success.
Established in 2007, the University’s School of Contemporary Chinese Studies (SCCS) is one of the world’s largest and most influential centres of Chinese Studies, incorporating the China Policy Institute (CPI) and the Nottingham Confucius Institute (NCI).
CPI is the only think-tank dedicated to the analysis of developments in China that focus on implications for policy-makers in the UK, the EU and China. NCI promotes the teaching of Chinese language and culture in the UK.
We want to educate a new generation of graduates who will be ideally placed to play instrumental roles in the rapid changes taking place in China and to communicate these changes to the rest of the world.
We will educate future business leaders, policy-makers and opinion shapers to understand China’s emergence and its implications on world economy, politics and society.
Graduates who have an in-depth knowledge of contemporary China, can understand Mandarin and are able to analyse Chinese policies will be at the forefront of China’s growth.
As China establishes its position on the global stage, our graduates will be at the forefront of its successes. They will play significant roles in business education and policy circles in the UK, China and the world.
They are ideally placed to pursue a career in any area that requires an in-depth knowledge of contemporary China and are well-positioned to work in large multi-national corporations.
Our graduates have been successful in government and non-government agencies, banks, insurance companies, industries, universities and multi-national companies in China, the UK and the world.
What will your Impact be?
Your support for Contemporary Chinese Studies will help equip our graduates to work alongside leaders in Europe and in China to meet the challenges of a seismic shift in socio-economic and cultural life across the globe.
